Don’t take a Napa, Go to Napa

In searching for a fun girls’ summer rendezvous, I came across the Silverado Resort in Napa, California. Besides fabulous vineyards, they have a spa, two 18-hole golf courses, tennis, and did I mention wine? Summer’s supposed to be incredible too.

I need a Venice Fix

My favorite city in the world is sinking, and so are my hopes to visit there soon unless I can convince Bryan, afore mentioned beau to get a great deal in the off season- starting in early fall and also early winter. We’ve both been separately, but never together and it’s so romantic (did I mention we just celebrated our first anniversary) I am trying to convince him to go by showing him the fifty plus hotels in there on hotelbook.com, a picture and enough whining may do the trick.

I'm in a New York State of Mind...

I just got back from my first ever trip to NYC and I can definitely say that we 8 girls took a huge ol’ bite out of the Big Apple.  Whoever said that it’s the city that never sleeps wasn’t kidding.  Just take a look at the bags under my eyes post vacation. Note to self: take the day off from work after getting back from a trip!

On our first night, the concierge recommended that we stop by the Hotel Gansevoort, which was just a hop, skip, and a subway ride away in the Meatpacking district.  The G Spa there is a hybrid spa-lounge and the first of its kind apparently. It was also recently featured in Forbes as one of their top 10 hottest spas in the world.  During the day, it’s a first class spa offering a luxurious array of spa amenities, and then after 10 pm, it’s transformed into a trendy lounge with a contemporary, minimalist ambiance.  I wonder if they have a problem with anyone jumping into any of the 3 infinity pools there after one too many drinks? You never know with those crazy New Yorkers! But that’s for another blog entry.

Dallas…Not to be mistaken

They are making a movie about “Dallas,” the late 70’s T.V. show that brought us the Ewings! But, I heard this week they’re not filming at Southfork, the original filming location and renowned tourist attraction, or any other part of Texas for that matter. It will be in Jacksonville, FL.

If you’re smart enough to check out the original Dallas (unlike the director), I recommend The Fairmont or The Adolphus. Both are downtown and within walking distance of great restaurants, museums, and the grassy knoll. For those who really want to get closer to the action check out The Southfork Hotel.

Fiji for me!

I’m staring at the map on the back of my Fiji bottle and wishing I were there right now. So I checked trusty hotelbook.com and found the Warwick Fiji Hotel. Perfect for a rendezvous with friends, family or a significant other, it has everything from water sports and horseback riding to golf and spa. For now though, I will stare and daydream at the now empty bottle…sniff.

Going to the Shangai International Film Festival?

The Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) will be held from Jun 17 to June 25 this year. This festival was started in 1993 and is the only international film festival in China.

If only they could bring Bruce Lee back? Enter the Dragon is one of my top 10 movies of all time. It rocks! And talk about retro! The 70s style is awesome!

Tokyo Podcast, Part Two: Asakusa

Welcome back to the hotelbook.com podcast. This our second podcast on Tokyo. Last time we explored the lively Shibuya district and in this episode we’re going to take a look at an area called Asakusa. Asakusa has some great cultural sites. There is the Sensoji Temple, the Five Storey Pagoda, and the traditional market of Nakamise. The area is quite complicated, so grab yourself a map from the Asakusa Tourist Center which is right near the train station.

On Your Mark, Get Set, Go…to Boston

The Boston Marathon is only 10 days away and the streets will fill with both participants and supporters as the whole city shuts down for the day. So instead of doing the usual tourist activities, like the standard duck tours, Harvard Square, or wandering around the streets of Beacon Hill, go ahead and enjoy this annual festivity on April 17. Check these travel guides: tips on enjoying the race or visit the official site for the Boston Marathon

Hawaii...Remix

In case any of you have forgotten, I’m going to Hawaii three months from today. And, to ensure you’re still green with envy, I wanted to share another planned stop on our excursion.

Turtle Bay Resort is on Oahu’s North Shore, and is named for the bay it looks over. They say surfing is the best in winter months, and it offers golf, tennis, snorkeling, and spa activities year-round. Of course, the beach and pools aren’t to be missed anytime of year. Especially when I’m there in July. Too bad for you Leigh.

Just looking at the pictures put me in a relaxed mood…try it yourself.

Tokyo Podcast, Part One: Shibuya

Welcome to the hotelbook.com podcast. Today we visit Tokyo, one of the world’s most exciting cities.

And we’re going to take a brief look at a must-see area of the city, Shibuya.

Shibuya is a wildly crowded, fun, lively and vibrant part of Western Tokyo. There are a number of classic sites to be seen in Shibuya but also some unusual ones too. Starting with a classic, you can see the famous capsule hotel, Central Inn Shibuya. Unfortunately, women aren’t allowed inside, but guys are welcome to enter and take a peek at the tiny capsules or pods that can be purchased for the night. It is highly unlikely that you’d voluntarily spend a night in one of these tiny capsules. They are most popular with young Japanese businessmen who have had a few too many after-work drinks and have either forgotten their way home, or missed the last train.

Red, red rocks!

Just saw this totally “un-biased” comment on hotelchatter.com about the Amara Creekside Resort in Sedona, Ariz. one of the hotels listed on hotelbook.com FYI. Check it out and maybe you’ll feel the same way.

After obsessing about how amazing it looked, and in an attempt to put my longing to visit aside, I painted my dining room a shade of the red very similar to Sedona’s red rocks.

Now, all I have to do is get Bryan, afore mentioned beau, to take me there for a quick spring holiday. For now, I’ll sit in my room and imagine being among the rockin’ red rocks.
